France

After our wedding, Pat and I picked up a phrasebook and some Tyvek maps and went to France for a couple of weeks. We armed ourselves with some really practical phrases, like "Nous sommes en lune de miel!" and "Qui est ton papa?" We returned as total francophiles.

Paris

We spent the first week of our trip in Paris. We stayed at the Best Western on the left bank of the Siene, about two blocks from the Eiffel Tower.

Where to Eat

The restaurants in Paris are great, but it can be a little overwhelming to figure out where to go. We found the book "Great Eats Paris" by Sandra Gustafson to be pretty helpful for explaining things like when you should tip, the differences between a restaurant, a cafe and a brasserie, and why you shouldn't order coffee with dessert (it is customary to order it afterwards). The book also included the schedule for the weekly open-air markets, so we were able to put together a nice little picnic and stink up the mini-fridge in our hotel room with some Camembert cheese.
